No.

Kinja'd!!!

I tried the instant cash offer thing that autotrader has after seeing the resounding success carsoffortlangley had. Made for a good laugh.

1700 for the E55, 2200 for the R500. I knew this wasn’t going to work out, but those numbers are hilariously low. I was expecting closer to 4k for the R500, but E55's are typically going over 10k easily in very good condition or with rare options. And mine has two extremely rare options and is in perfect mechanical and interior condition. Higher miles, but this offer should’ve been at least 7-8k.

For a cash offer? You’re dreaming. The market for 2001 vehicles is tiny and they’re pricing it according to how the average moron would describe their vehicle’s condition.

Even if they could inspect it and take it in trade you’d be exceedingly lucky to get $7k. They’re pricing in close to $1k in detailing (car might not sell right away) and $1k in reconditioning and want to get close to a 50/50 split after that. So $10k - 2k in reconditioning chopped in half is like 4 bills tops.

Working backwards, $1750 x2 is $3500, plus $2k in reconditioning puts it at like $5500, which is probably a lot closer to “average” instead of “pristine.” It’s a bad offer to be sure but $7k in cash is totally unrealistic. No dealer is laying that out to make a difficult thousand bucks when they can take one of 500 Camry’s and flip it in a week for double that.

People pay $10k for twenty year-old Mercs up there? Dios mio. I thought it was just a Toyota thing. I’m guessing their pricing is based on most owners not being Merc techs and the cars being a decade past their sell by date.

Nice, when I do an instant cash offer on my piles, they usually just say “no”

O h I never for a second thought I would get that kind of an offer. But 1700 is an absolute joke. 7-8k was best case absolute max that I thought I might get on a perfect day. But this is why when I do sell it it'll be BaT probably.

This is the closest build I've seen to mine, but this one has half the miles and no ventilated seats. Mine is also black exterior.

W210 E55s sell for 10K easy if they have no pressing mechanical or cosmetic needs. Really nice low mileage cars can double that. They are kind of the E39 M5 of period MBs.

Same for late run R129s (SL) and the final batch of W140 S-class, they all have some value, and low mileage minters can bring money.  Late run W126 S-class in pristine condition can add another 50% to that.

Now if you want a 2002 C-class, it won’t break the bank.

If I had the spare money and space, I would consider that one. Extraordinarily rare color combo.  Selling my 210 E55 gives me more seller’s remorse than any car I’ve owned.

Yeah, someone bought a TT500 on BaT the same day I purchased mine, but for almost 4x what I paid, and mine was from the original owner. I guess some people like their dirtbikes to be really clean?

I know the situation is completely different for certain German car models, as Fintail pointed out.

Gotcha. Certain models have a certain panache that the market can’t account for.

Exactly.  These are known to be relatively bulletproof cars in terms of powertrain, and they have an analog feel.  Period AMGs are also rare, with around 500 units per year sold to the US. Later models are many multiples of that.
